TIP OF THE MONTH: Standing on Soft Hands
In the game of blackjack, if you are using basic strategy, there are
lots of do's and don'ts to remember. First of all, a Soft Hand is
any hand with an Ace counting as eleven, or a hand without an
Ace....it's that simple. An Ace will only count as one if counting
it as eleven will make the hand bust. Anyways, you should never
stand on a Soft 17 or less. Conversely, you should always
stand on a Soft 19 or 20. What about a Soft 18 you ask? This one
is borderline according to "Casino Gambling for the Clueless". The
odds will say that it is best to always stand on a Soft 18 when
the dealer shows a 9, 10 or Ace. Conversely, you should
always hit on a Soft 18 when the dealer shows a 2, 7 or 8. What
about if the dealer is showing a 3,4,5 or 6? Double Down Baby!
Always double down on a Soft 17 or Soft 18 when the dealer shows a
3,4,5 or 6.
