Townsend Admits to Multi-Accounting
It is in our culture to admire and adore sports starts. We even go far enough to
call them heroes. But because of these overly awed pop stars blown up
reputations, they are under high scrutiny when anything they do is thought
negatively on.
Brian ‘sbrugby’ Townsend, a professional poker player has been ousted and
admitted to multi-accounting at two separate online poker rooms. The two
Alderney-licensed online casinos FullTiltPoker.com and Isle of Man-licensed
PokerStars.com have both become victims of this condemned practice.
Multi-accounting is exactly what it sounds like. A player, usually with the aid
of a friend will sign into a game using multiple accounts. This perp can also
use multiple computers to log on under separate players. The advantage is in the
fact that this allows a user to have multiple entrances into tournaments or an
immense advantage over other players at a table. No matter what online casino
one prefers, this is considered bad form and cheating.
Townsend has been proven to be registered under and ‘Makersmark66’ with
PokerStars.com and ‘sbrugby’ and ‘Stellarnebula’ with FullTiltPoker.com. Even
though this is the pure definition of a multi-accounting user, Townsend has said
that he did not use the accounts to his advantage during tournament play.
“I hope that people can not only look to me for poker education but also for the
way to live their lives,' said 26-year-old Townsend in his apology.
“I made a mistake and I am willing to take responsibility for it. I am willing
to stand up and face the music. I apologize to the entire online community. I
will never partake in this type of activity in the future. This post should act
as a full admission of my guilt and I sincerely apologize to anyone that I've
wronged.”
Townsend has been benched from his Red Pro class for half a year from
FullTiltPoker.com and there has been no report on the punishment from
PokerStars.com as of yet. But out of his heroic character, Townsend has
announced that he will donate the $25,000 of his winnings from CardRunners.com
to charity.
