Three Brothers Await Sentencing
The United States has strict laws and regulations regarding the advertising and
operating of online casinos. As of right now, advertising for an online casino
is illegal. This has been greatly criticized especially because it is said to be
inconsistent with the present gambling laws. These laws are something that the
Lenis brothers have become all too familiar with.
Over the last two years William Hernan Lenis, William Luis Lenis and Manny Lenis
have been involved in a case against them accusing them of being advertisers for
the sports gambling website, BetOnSports. The three men all plead guilty to
being involved in the advertisement of the website in the St. Louis courtroom.
Because of their plea, their sentencing may not be as harsh as it would’ve been
if they had to go to trial for their online casino advertising violations.
The new developments on this case involve the sentencing date which will be in
October of 2008. The Lenis brothers are being charged with broadcasting online
gambling information, transportation of online casino merchandise between
states, and various misdemeanor counts. William Hernan Lenis is also being
accused of additional charges. Hernan owned a mail distributing company called
“Direct Mail Expertise” from the years 2000 until 2006. He is being accused of
distributing over two million BetOnSports ads through his mail service. Their
attorney says that their online casino/sports book site involvement extends only
to their advertising and assures that they had no hand in running the site what
so ever.
One thing is certain, the Lenis brothers will face their fate in October. Until
legislation changes the laws on online casinos, be careful and know the law… or
you may just face some jail time.
