European Union Votes: 1
There have been a lot of hopes that were recently crushed by the European Union.
The European Union was expected to liberalize online casinos and the internet
gambling industry. The initiative that was taken by the voting members of the
Union voted in favor of the own initiative report that was presented to them
recently. One of the key issues in the world of the online casino industry has
always been keeping the integrity of the internet gambling industry and that is
exactly what was in question this time. Some of the people who voted strongly
for the report were the deputies. Christel Schaldemose is a member of the Danish
Socialist party and he is the one responsible for writing the report which was
voted on by the European Union.
The European Union voted on the online casino integrity report recently with a
whopping lead in people who voted for the report. There were only 66 members
that were absent from the vote and yet the yay’s out voted the nay’s 544 votes
for the proposal to 36 votes against it. A right wing member from the United
Kingdom, MEP Malcolm Harbour wanted to propose alternative report which
presented a new set of international and internal marketing rules that he
believed should apply to online casinos and other gambling activities. He was
not too happy with the way the European Union voted on this matter. Mr. Harbour
even went as far to say that the European union parliament miss an opportunity
that would've benefited them greatly.
Mr. Harbour had more opinions about the online casino issue. Mr. Harbour said,
"Several member states continue to have their heads in the sand, failing to
recognize the realities of a dynamic gambling market." He also has his opinions
on how the United Kingdom is doing their business with online casinos. He added
that the United Kingdom "has proved how a liberalized, but effectively regulated
market, can achieve both a high level of consumer protection and integrity in
online gambling."
