European Parliament Talks Sports: 1
The European Parliament has a big decision to make in the upcoming weeks
regarding online betting. This time however it is not about online casinos, it
is regarding sports betting online on sports such as cricket, football, and
horse racing. Sports betting online is a huge business in Europe, over 3 million
people wager online for their favorite teams or players. The newest decision
that needs to be made by the European Parliament is whether or not it's online
sports betting should be regulated at the European level or at the national
level. The online casino industry is currently in regulated at the national
level. A recent report by the Parliament's Internal Market Committee suggests
that the national governments need to regulate their own countries Internet
gaming.
The recent report does not have the final say, the topic will be debated in
Strasburg and going into it no one knows exactly what will happen. A recent
report that was released titled “the integrity of online gambling” created
plenty of controversy and rumors to be started about the online casino industry
and the online sports betting world. In the most recent report, over 400
amendments have been called for to be reviewed by the committee. One gentleman
in particular, Christel Schaldemose, a Danish Socialist has expressed his
opinion on this highly debated issue. He thinks that all governments should find
a common ground on certain things like personal data or security, illegal online
actions, gambling addiction, age requirements and game fixing. Another topic
that definitely has to be discussed is how and what measures to take to protect
youth from gambling online at online casinos or poker rooms.
