PPA Approaches Conservatives
The Poker Players Alliance recently had a meeting at me conservative political
action conference in Washington. There had never been a meeting like this and
had so many lobbyists and lobbying organizations that were in favor of the
online poker and online casino industries. American conservatives have not and
assembly this large in the party's history. The conservatives in the United
States are the target audience for the Poker Players Alliance because with their
support and there's more of a chance legalization of poker as a sport. The focus
of the assembly was predominantly put on the regulation of online poker and
online casinos. In the meeting was recently held in Washington the Poker Players
Alliance presented a two-sided handout to the conservatives outlining why they
should fight protect the poker player and his rights.
The Poker Players Alliance decided that conservatives have a personal
responsibility to provide Internet freedom to their fellow Americans. The people
who attended in the poker player alliance’s meeting were well aware see court
ruling in Colorado that deems poker game of skill and not a game of luck like
video slots at an online casino. Other states that have come down with rulings
such as the one that Colorado had were Pennsylvania and South Carolina. One of
the biggest problems that people have had with Homeland casino legislation is
that it limits the freedom of the Internet. The United States is not the only
country that has this issue, but it is still an issue.
Online casinos have been fighting to be able to operate freely in the United
States since 2006. Richard Muny, of the Poker Players Alliance said, "Social
conservatives are pretty strong. If a church pastor asks a congregation to write
a letter, everyone will. Some Congressmen want to keep a 100% rating from groups
like the Christian Coalition. In doing so, they'll stay away from us. If they
don't, they'll be accused of being pro-gambling." He did not comment on the
online casino industry, but he is confident that poker will be the way to
freedom. He went on to add, "It was awesome to show people that we were making
progress in that area. Even the attendees who were leery of gambling liked the
idea that there was a line between poker, a game of skill where the house has no
interest in the outcome, and a game of chance where the house has an interest in
you losing."
