Florida to Change Gambling Laws: 2
The state of Florida has not always had the best reputation for being a very
progressive state, but the progress that they are making with their current
legislation changes will affect the gambling industry in a positive way. This is
not to say that online casinos and internet gambling will become completely
legal and free of taboo but the minimum age to gamble in the state of Florida
will be lowered if the new proposal goes through. The chairman of Regulated
Industries Committee, Sen. Dennis Jones, who is a Republican that represents
Seminole County said that they are currently trying to create a level playing
field for players all across the state of Florida so then everyone is on the
same page. The online casino industry has gone through similar discussions of
what the minimum age to be able to gamble legally should be.
As always with anything that has to do with an online casino or even gambling in
general there are a hand full of people that are worried about any sort of
change to the current legislations that are in place. The executive director of
the Florida Council on Compulsive Gambling, Pat Fowler, has expressed his
concern that lowering the age of legal gambling in the state of Florida will
then result in a gambling addiction to high risk youth. His concerns are being
taken very seriously as he does say that the law change will provide the state
with much needed revenue but he says that the members of the Florida government
can not overlook the social costs of changing these laws. After all, the minimum
legal age to gamble in major gambling cities like Atlantic City and LasVegas is
21 years old. We dill definitely keep you updated on the progress made by the
Florida legislature.
