European Parliament Debates Internet Safety: 2
Information is power and the youth of the world need to know how to apply safety
precautions on the web as well as in the real world. The European Parliament
will be meeting during the last week of March to discuss the matter at hand in a
session that will take place in Strasbourg, France. Online casino and internet
activity in general has increased dramatically over the last few years and there
has been a demand for a way to protect the consumers in this highly unregulated
medium. A Consumer Bill of Rights is in the works for the internet users in the
European Union. This is not the only bill that is in the works. There have been
a lot of developments in the laws of the internet, in particular those that
effect online casinos and other internet gambling websites.
So far Sweden is leading the race in advanced region information. Actually,
Northern Europe in general is having better luck on progressing their internet
laws. That is not to say that other nations are sitting idly by as Sweden takes
the lead in communication technology and information, South Korea is in second
place and is vying for that number one spot. The nations that are closely
following the work of the leading nations are Norway, Iceland, Denmark, and the
Netherlands. All of these nations are leaning towards a system that would very
similarly regulate the use of the internet via information storage and use. We
do not quite yet know how this will affect the online casino industry but at
this time it looks like it may help. Lambrinidis has warned the people who use
the internet by saying, "the right to obtain the permanent deletion of personal
data located on internet websites."
