New Bill Proposed In Philippines
Narciso Santiago, the representative for the Alliance for Rural Concerns Party
proposed a bill that would make it illegal for any online casino to run in the
Philippines. The bill that he recently presented to the Philippine government
has made it very clear that the online casino industry would not be welcome
anywhere near their country. The details of the bill would make anyone who
sends, receives or invites information regarding an online wager someone who is
breaking the law. Not only would online casinos be banned from the only port
where it is legal for an internet gambling website to be operated for in the
Philippines, but it would make anyone a criminal that aides in someone making a
wager online.
The bill is not yet a law and it still under intense revision. The online
wagering law would only affect the online casino industry, it would not have any
harm on the bet that are placed on horse races. Horse racing is very big in the
Philippines and all places of business that are allowed to take horse betting
wagers are licensed and regulated by all of the laws that are applicable to that
industry. All of the proceeds and bets made associated to the lottery would also
remain unaffected by the law that could be enacted in the Philippines, says the
Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. The last form of gambling that would not
be affected under the law proposed by Santiago is any wagering made through
fantasy sports leagues.
The man who proposed this anti online casino bill, Narciso Santiago, has a great
concern on youth using the internet to gable at online casinos. He said, "As
minors traverse the sites of the web, the possibility of kids being enticed to
gamble is high because of the tempting prizes that are awarded, like vacation
trips, computers, cars and even cash." The new laws that were proposed would
have heavy penalties and would easily intimidate the average person from not
abiding by the law. And if the fines associated with the proposed law do not
scare some people, maybe the up to four years of imprisonment may do so.
