French Online Casinos in 2010

The online casino industry has a new hope in the French gaming market. There was a new proposal recently released for the online gaming industry in France by the French Budget Minister. What this proposal would do is open up the French market to private online casinos and other internet gambling websites. This is very good news for online casino fans in France. The hope for the industry is to be able to have new online casinos and other internet gambling websites available to the public by January 1, 2010. All of this good news has the online casino industry roaring with excitement. The proposal has yet to be accepted, however.

The new proposal would have the French government be in complete compliance with the European Union’s trade services agreements with the online casino industry and other internet gambling industries as well. French online casinos would then be able to apply for licensing in their own country. The latest details of the proposal say that there will be a required gaming license to operate in France and the gaming tax will be at 7.5 percent for online casinos and sports betting websites. The taxes on poker websites will be much lower at a rate of 2.5 percent. This is a great new development for the French government as they are in dire need of tax revenue during this time of economic struggle.

The United States is currently experiencing similar backlash to their anti online casino laws that they had enacted in 2006. The only big difference is that France had to answer to the European Union over their non compliance to the obligations they have as a member of the Union. The United States is not alone in the sense that they are not the only country that has put forth a ban on online casinos. In most of those countries such a ban has made it very possible for government operated monopolies to exist and there has been a call for intervention.

France is in the clear with the European Union now and they will hopefully be able to benefit from all of the revenue that will come their way from the online casino industry. And the online casino industry hopes that this will be an example for other countries who have yet to take the plunge and allow the online gaming industry into their market. Online casinos will continue to fight until that day comes.
