US Online Casino Progress: 3
Representative Barney Frank has been the most vocal and strongest ally for the
online casino industry to date. The latest round of legislation and bills that
he has presented to the United States government has gotten a whole lot more
support than his previous efforts. Barney Frank has tried to over turn the
Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act before but there was little to no
luck. There were several different factors during those attempts. The United
States had a different president and a Republican majority House which is
traditionally more conservative. These were the people that passed the UIGEA as
a minor footnote with a port security bill, so the fact that those people were
not jumping at the chance to over turn their decision is not really surprising.
This time around the support that Barney Frank has received for his bill is
pretty impressive. His bill is in support of online casino and internet gambling
legislation. As of the last time that was checked Rep. Barney Frank has 35
co-sponsors on his Bill. Probably the more surprising factor behind all of these
sponsors is that they are from different parties, this is not a one sided issue
any more. The lawmakers in Washington are realizing that it is the choice of the
people of the United States whether or not they should be able to gamble at
online casinos. The people who have co-sponsored this bill are some of the
people who voted for the UIGEA to go through in the first place. There are also
some that had no opinion towards online gambling and online casinos who now feel
that the online casino industry is necessary for the United States.
