WSOP Speech
Representative Barney Frank recently spoke to a room of poker players at the
World Series of Poker. The work that Barney Frank is doing in Washington does
effect these players because a majority of the people in that room play and
practice poker at online casinos. That right to play online at the online casino
of their choice has been taken away from them due to the Unlawful Internet
Gambling Enforcement Act that was passed in 2006 and therefore made it pretty
much impossible for online casinos and their players to be able to partake at
internet gambling sites in the United States. Frank told all of the people that
were present at the meeting at the World Series of Poker that his plan is to
have the UIGEA repealed by the end of next year.
The message that he sent to these players was a strong one but it was also one
that was filled with hope. He revealed to players that the hope is to have
regulations for online casinos put into place by the end of the year. The only
thing is that there are more pressing issues that the United States government
has to take care of before they tackle the beast that is the online casino
industry. Frank was definitely the guest of honor at the WSOP event and he said
that due to the recession there is a bit of a hault on the legislation process
but the support that he has received would make the Bill hard to stop. The
general feel in the room was that the Representative and his team are doing
everything that they can to bring Americans the right to choose whether or not
they want to gamble at an online casino or internet gambling site.
