Ohio Governor is Anti Casino
The world of land based and online casinos have not had the easiest last couple
of years, in fact since the beginning of gambling there has always been ridicule
on the side. According to recent reports form the Associated Press, the Governor
of Ohio, Ted Strickland, has once again made his points in saying that gambling
is bad for the state. The United States has a law that was passed in 2006 called
the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, which prohibits financial
institutions from letting transactions occur from a player in the United States
to give or receive money directly from an online casino. The topic has been a
heated one over the years and will continue to be a highly debated issue.
Lately even land based casinos have been questioned. The Governor of Ohio
recently said that he is open to proposals that may lead for tax benefits from
land based gambling. In fact, the governor ran his race as one of his core
beliefs being that he is against gambling at land based casinos and online
casinos alike. Although the online casino has not been put on the Ohio ballot,
Ohio voters have repeatedly shot down proposals of putting slot machines in race
tracks. The people of Ohio have also voted against the mere existence of land
based casinos, even turning down a proposal for a new land based casino which
was planned to be located in western Ohio. The state of Ohio is currently facing
a $7 billion dollar deficit in their budget for the next two years.
