Oh the pain, the misery, the unconstitutionality of it all! Oh Germany hear my
cry. Can't you see I can't gamble without you. Oh wait, maybe I can. Lest I
forget, the World Wide Web is exactly that - World Wide.
Do you, my dear
German states, believe you have the right to pass and get away with enforcing
"internet freedom" rules. Do you think you can really stop me from logging onto
any online gambling site licensed elsewhere in the world, and who is willing to
process my real money bets?
Not that you would want to anyways. First of all, I'm not a German citizen.
Secondly, if it needs pointing out, I don't speak German. So why do I care, you
ask? Well, I really don't, aside from the fact that I am hopeful that the online
gambling industry will have some kind of uniform regulation standards one day.
Not that there isn't any already, it's just limited to a few small areas.
Wouldn't it be great to do some gambling at any online casino, no matter what
country it was regulated in, and to pretty much be protected by the same laws
and regulation standards? In my dreams right? I know it sounds unrealistic
considering all the ass-backwards "regulation" going on.
As for Germany, sixteen states made a New Years accord calling for the
banishment of online casino gambling in their jurisdictions. It doesn't seem
like the accord will hold, however. Not only have several notable betting sites
called the maneuver unconstitutional and in violation of European law, both the
EU and the German Monopolies Commission have criticized the so-called ban.
