Protecting Youth from Gambling: 1

The United States has used a program from the Tokyo based company Trend Micro to protect their country’s youth from playing at online casinos. The company that developed the security program has recently reported that they earned over 800 million in the year 2007 alone from selling that software. What does this mean for the average consumer? Well if you are a parent of a teenager who has a cell phone or access to a credit card, then this program is designed to benefit you. The United States has been at the center of online casino industry discussions since the passing of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006. The ban from internet gambling was supposed to primarily protect children but the discussions have been geared towards the unfair treatment of the legal and willing players.

The company’s ‘Advanced Parental Control Software’ was included in their latest version of the Trend Micro Internet Security. This will hopefully allow the government to see that with the right tools they do not have to do an across the board ban on online casinos. Some of the features that the program has are the Limited Internet Access feature. This feature limits what the child could access. The newest features allow parents to control when their child can go online and for how long, a five minute reminder pops up on the screen for the child to know when their time online is almost up. This is a great way for parents to make sure that their kids are not going into an online casino or any other prohibited website.
