The Industry Waits on Obama

The United States policies on online casinos and internet gambling are still a hot topic around the websites of the world. The Obama Administration has not yet been in power for a month yet and people all over the world are wondering if his administration will legalize the online casino industry during his four years in office. In the United Kingdom, one of the world’s most popular online casinos, William Hill, currently has a betting pool on whether or not Barack Obama’s administration will legalize US online gambling in his first term as President of the United States. They are not just taking bets on whether or not it will be legalized or not, they are taking bets on when it will happen (if it happens) and if so, what the terms will be and how strictly it will be regulated.

The hope of the online casino industry is that the mood will be friendlier toward online casinos and internet gambling than it has been in the last eight years. The economic conditions of both the United States and the rest of the world will really affect the time line of online casino regulation and legalization in the US. The last administration did make some highly criticized moves in their last few months in office. One move in particular was the way that they placed the responsibility on the US financial institutions to not authorize illegal internet gambling activity. Critics said that their demands were unclear of what even defined illegal internet gambling activity.
