Second Annual Responsible Gaming Day: 2
The second annual Responsible Gaming Day conference definitely hosted some of
the online casino industry’s heavy hitters. Online casinos were heavily
discussed but surprisingly were not the main topic of discussion. The
conferences had three main themes. The first conference was on the online casino
industry and it was called The Internet: Blessing or Curse in Terms of
Integrity? Blogs and online casino forums have spent years discussing this issue
and it surely was not a topic that was short on opinions. The next topic on the
agenda was Sports and Bookmaking: A Question of Ethics? As usual, ethics are
playing a big part in the decisions from the big organizations. The last topic
that was discussed at length was Sports Betting: How to Tackle the Risks?
There were a number of speakers that got up and discussed the issues in front of
the entire online casino and internet gambling industry. Some of those invited
speakers included such names as: Leon Thomas the Head of Regulatory Compliance
Party Gaming, Brian Pomeroy the Chairman of the UK Gambling Commission and
Michal Kejza the Head of Unit, Sport, European Commission. But before all of
those distinguished people spoke at the conference the opening remarks were
heard by none other than the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports for the
Czech Republic, Mr. Ondfej Liska. The final address of the internet gambling
conference was given by the Co Chief Executive Officer of BWin, Norbert
Teufelberger.
As expected, professors from highly respected schools such as Cardiff and
Harvard were in attendance. Online casinos are still banned in the United States
but continue to be a highly studied topic in the States, which probably explains
why professors from the Ivy league, Harvard, were in attendance. The European
event was a success and hopefully took out some of the worries that people had
regarding the online casino and sports bookmaking industries.
