Dutch Government
Recent reports from the Netherlands reveal that Ernst Hirsch Ballin, the Dutch
justice minister, is preparing to crack down on the illegal online casinos in
the very near future. The government will be cracking down on the online casinos
that are currently operating both domestically and the ones that are based out
of the country. This comes after there have been reports of the local online
casino industry ‘pushing the buttons’ of the government. Banks in the area have
been warned that they will be prosecuted if they have an online casino as one of
their customers. This would mean that there is a burden that is going to be
placed on the financial industries.
The Dutch government currently controls all of the gambling in the country. The
companies that offer gambling in the country without the government’s authority
are therefore operating illegal online casinos or land based casinos. Currently
the European Union has issues with the two countries Greece and the Netherlands
for not cooperating with the rest of the EU on the online casino and gambling
matters. Just last year the justice minister of the Netherlands told the local
banks not to process transactions from the online casino Unibet and Oranje
Casino. This is leading for the country to have online gambling monopolies which
the European Union is completely against.
As we know, the online casino industry is full of situations like this. With the
current economic state of the world all online casinos are struggling to stay
afloat and the two governments are not helping. There have been plenty of failed
attempts to restrict online casinos in Holland not to mention the attempts that
the American government has tried to place on the United States financial
institutions. At the end of the day, the Dutch are going to continue on the way
that they have been trying to battle online gambling.
