Ontario Gambling Addiction Discussion
According to Thomas Klassen, a professor for the York University, this time of
economic crisis is the perfect time to discuss problem online casino gambling.
In fact he thinks it should be at the forefront of conversations. Canada had not
yet done an assessment of just how online casinos affect the entire country. The
discussion will soon take place in Ontario’s gaming discussion period. The
Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation released a report which stated that there
were some insiders of the Ontario lotteries that may have been compromising the
system. Lotteries are not considered as high of a priority at the discussion
table because of how fast online casinos and online gaming in general is growing
and due to the fact that people will soon be able to purchase lottery tickets
online.
Online casinos and internet gambling have been under scrutiny of critics and
people who praise the online casino alike since the first internet gambling
website opened in the early 1990’s. Klassen thinks that this will definitely
increase underage gambling and people who maybe should not be gambling in the
first place such as recovering gambling addicts. Gambling is something that
people have done for hundreds of years. It has something to do with the concept
of that slim chance that you will be able to put down a little bit of money and
come out the big winner of the day. It is that excitement that keeps people
coming back to online casinos and any other type of gambling in general.
