Aussie Critics Deem Gambling ‘Unethical’: 2
The current debate in Australia is whether or not online casinos giving
customers incentives to re subscribe to their website is ethical or not.
According to the critics of the online casino industry think that it is not
ethical to have so many things in fine print and believe that it is unfair to
the customer. One website, Sportingbet Australia has offered its customers up to
$200.00. The amount that the player for free was determined by the amount that
the player had in the website’s betting account. Even tennis fans were not safe
from the advertising of online casinos. At the Australian Open, Betfair offered
the attendees of the event a $50 betting credit if they signed up for an account
to their website that day.
The Sports Acumen online betting site along with the sports betting site and
bookmaker Gerard Duffy offered $50 to their existing players for referring a
friend to their online casinos. The argument brought forth by the anti online
casino critics is that these free betting credits will increase problem
gambling. The argument brought by the online casino industry is that their
promotions are no different than those of other companies not related to online
gambling. The Australian public is loving the current promotions by the online
casinos. This is largely due to the fact that some states like Victoria and NSW
have dropped the ban on online casino advertisements.
The anti online casino critics will always have the last word in an argument
such as this one. Senator Xenophon who is well known for his stance against
online casinos wants to ban offers like this officially and is willing to take
it to the Federal Government. Rev Tim Costello, a social justice campaigner said
of the whole ordeal, "It's like saying to an alcoholic, here's a free drink.
There is no question it is dangerous. I think it's wrong." Surely this debate
will not end soon, hopefully the people of Australia will decide what the fate
of their online casinos is.
