Australian Company Asks for Government Aide
The Australian government has had some problems lately with their
regulations that deal with online casinos. In fact the Senate has been accused
of lollygagging with the proposed bills that have to do with gambling problems
in Australia. There are two politicians that are heading up this crusade are
Steve Fielding and Nick Xenophon. The committee in charge of processing the
bills in question is headed up by Claire Moore who works for the Labor division
of the government. Moore dismissed the accusations that Xenophon and Fielding
made and said that the committee has been studying all of three of the bills.
She also noted that all three bills do focus on nipping the gambling problems of
Australia, whether it be at an online casino or not.
Her comments come also with an extension of the timeline. Moore said that she is
recommending that the Poroductivity Committee looks at the bills and determines
which one would be the best for an online casino market and which would be best
for the land based casinos. Their hope is to have only one solution and not need
exclusive solutions for the gambling issues related to online casinos. The
Productivity is set to have their report on the matter finished and ready to
publish in the later parts of next year. Even though there is a dire need for a
solution, there seems to be no need to rush into one thing simply because it is
convenient and a quick solution for the time being.
Online casinos have been seen as an issue in almost every country there an
online casino exists. Moore says of the bills, "At this time, to take three
piecemeal bills and actually put some action into place without the value of
what will be a full-scale, deeply and effectively independently researched
Productivity Commission report, would not be the appropriate thing to do." To
this claim Senator Fielding has another opinion, “One of the reasons some groups
have lobbied for the Productivity Commission report is to in fact delay a
decision on taking real action now to reduce problem gambling from pokies, in
the hope that their revenue will be protected”.
