Anyone heard of the Online Players Union?
Sounds like a pretty official name, doesn't it? Or does it? The reason I bring
this up is because of a recent press release I came across in the news. It was
published by the Online Players Union (let's just call 'em the OPU), which is
apparently a group of players and gambling experts who know a thing or two about
online casino gambling.
First off, let's not confuse the Online Players Union with any other
alliance. This one is all about online casinos. Secondly, I am in no way trying
to discredit the OPU. I just have a few questions, that's
all. When I first visited the website, I saw a message that stated the OPU is
the "most powerful gambling portal on the Net" and that if an online casino, or
any gaming site for that matter, is not listed on the site, players should be
warned to place bets there.
That sounds fine and dandy. However, when the only online casinos listed are
from the Belle Rock casino gambling network (Lucky Nugget Casino, River Belle
Casino, Jackpot City and the Gaming Club), it makes me wonder what happened to
the rest of the pack of fine online casinos. And to be honest, while Belle Rock
is a popular brand, I'm not quite sure what their deal is with the U.S. market
anyways.
I entered the OPU website, and found a forum that was getting plenty of
activity. However, it appears most of that activity was last year and is by a
handful of the same screen-names - maybe even the same person. Also, most of the
posts appear to be coming from affiliates looking to promote their portals and
affiliated sites. Sure, lot's of affiliates are also players. But where are the
real players here? The newbies who know absolutely nothing about the world of
online casino gambling?
Maybe the site is undergoing some improvements, so I'll be checking back to
see if things change. However, at this time, I personally find no use in joining
and am somewhat irked by all the talk in their press release about the OPU being
an independent representative body. Just be honest and say that you're an
affiliate. You'll be respected more.
