That's right. You heard it straight. An online poker room has actually come
out with a downloadable software package compatible with Mac's. Can somebody
please pinch me? Better yet, can somebody spank me? Softly please, I'm
sensitive. All I can say is that I'm sufficiently shocked and pleased at the
same time. What doesn't surprise me is that the new platform comes from the
likes of Poker Stars - an excellent poker room to say the least.
Sure I know, Poker Stars is like the most popular poker room online right
now. So what. I say the more the merrier. Bigger pots and more diverse action is
what makes an online poker room go round if you ask me. While the new software
is certainly a step in the right direction, it still has some catching up to do.
I haven't downloaded it yet on my G5, but apparently it lacks the Layout Manager
and Preferred seat feature. It is in beta format though, so I'm thinking it will
have these features when it comes out of beta testing.
If you own a Mac and feel like being a guinea pig, Poker Stars wants you to
download. Please don't think your computer's going to crash or anything, or that
you'll lose a secure connection, 'cause its not. The only reason I feel the need
to say this disclaimer is because, contrary to popular belief, Mac user's are
not necessarily more tech savvy than PC'ers. Believe me, there are plenty of
rich Daddy's little girls sporting their iPod's, iPhone's, iMac, iEverything's
to and fro. If you've ever been to a genius bar, you can't deny there is some
truth to this.
Anyways, the software is for Mac OS X 10.4.10 or later and can be used
on a PowerPC, G4, G5 or Intel Mac. Minimum requirements are 512MB's of RAM,
1024x768 screen resolution or higher, 60MB's of disk drive space and an internet
connection. For optimal performance, use Broadband and a 1GHz processor or
faster. You'll also get faster operation with at least 1,024 MB's of RAM and
100MB's of disk space.
