Obama Tribute in Antigua: 2
Antigua has not been in the best of regards with the United States over the
years and the latest move made by the island is one meant to reach out in peace.
The little island has been disputing with the United States for the past couple
of years over the United States blocking access to their online casinos. The
people of Antigua see the actions of the United States over the past couple of
years as violations of their previous free trade agreements due to the fact that
their online casino services were now being blocked. The case went all the way
to the World Trade Organization and found that the United States did owe Antigua
damages in this case. The negotiation has been on going over the past couple of
years and the debt has yet to be settled. That whole ordeal took place during
the Bush administration in the United States, maybe the change in presidency has
given the people of Antigua the hope that President Obama has given to many
around the world.
Antigua is not a rich country, they have been struggling economically for a
while. The damage which was done by the United States when they banned online
casino play is severe. There are many online casinos registered on the island
and those internet gambling sites used to supply the island with a large portion
of their income. There are many people in the poor island that are hoping that
President Barack Obama will change the online casino legislation and change the
policy which concerns their island and honor the free trade treaties that were
in place. Doing that would allow the residents of the little island in the
Caribbean to make a decent living. The people of Antigua will have to wait in
line with all of the other people who want the legislation to change in the
United States regarding online casinos.
