Bangkok Online Lottery Almost Approved: 1
The latest reports from the Council of State in Thailand have released the
intent for the Finance Ministry to put the plans for the national online
lottery. It is not the hope that the online casino wants to see in those
countries which would be legal online casinos, but it is a start. The plans for
a national online lottery have been in the works for a long time but they have
gone under constant delays. The Bangkok Post reported that the Finance permanent
secretary, Sathit Limpongpan was the one who asked for the decision to be made.
The Government Lottery Office had legal questions about the online lottery
program and so the boars asked the Council to finally rule on the online lottery
program. From that point they came to the conclusion that the online lottery was
not violating any of the laws of the state.
One of the questions that the Government Lottery Office has been asked
repeatedly is whether or not they would distribute and print the two and three
digit lottery tickets through the automated vending machines. All of the legal
issues that surround online casino and lotteries are pretty similar. The online
lottery is not an internet gambling site, but people would be allowed to
technically bet online. So the Council of the State ruled that the Government
Lottery Office would be able to print their own tickets from the online lottery,
because they see it as the same as them being able to print out and distribute
their regular lottery tickets, which they already print and distribute. The
secretary-general of the Council of State, Porntip Jal said, "We have already
given advice to the GLO about four to five issues. It now depends on the GLO to
decide the fate of the scheme." The Government Lottery Office was given all of
the information from the other government offices last week in order for them to
make the final decisions on the online lottery.
