Kentucky's At It Again
The state of Kentucky continues to shut down online casino domains. In a
previous article, we covered the misfortune of online casinos such as Golden
Casino. From recent reports, the State of Kentucky has seized 180 additional
internet gambling domains. The issue behind this confiscation is that most of
these domains are based outside of the United States. These are international
businesses that a majority seem to operate outside of the United States, and as
you know, Kentucky's jurisdiction does not surpass the Kentucky border.
The ruling made bu the judge over seeing this case, Judge Wingate, is a
temporary seizure of these domains. What the state of Kentucky wants to
accomplish by doing this is ending any illegal online casinos and gambling
devices. The state law enforcement has agreed to put a hold on the seizure of
the domains once they negotiate with the defendants lawyers. There is a hearing
coming up soon in order for the court to hear both sides of the table. There are
some heavy hitters in the online casino world supporting the defendants of this
case: Poker Players Alliance, Bluegrass Institute, and Interactive Media
Entertainment and Gaming Association. The meeting for this online casino debacle
will take place in the Franklin County Circuit Courts in Kentucky.
Critics of the governor of Kentucky say that his policies on internet gambling
are “hypocritical”. Governor Beshear has the intention of shutting down as many
online casinos and illegal gabling devices as he can. He has stated that he
wants to “clamp down on the online betting industry”, yet he has no problem
letting the people of Kentucky buy second chance tickets for the Kentucky
Lottery. Last time we checked, the lottery was gambling too. Governor Beshear
wants all of the online casino activity done inn the state of Kentucky to be
generating money for the government of Kentucky.
Governor Beshear need to have one thing clear: if people want to gamble, they
will find a way. Shutting down online casinos and trying to get their revenue to
fund the state is not going to go over well with the public. The defendants will
surely bring up the topic and argue that it is a right to be able to choose to
gamble at an online casino. We shall see what the court decides.
