Svenska Spel Wins Award
The World Lottery Association established an award in 2006 to encourage
responsible gaming from online casinos around the world. The Swedish online
casino and gaming company Svenska Spel was the latest recipient of the award at
the latest WLA conference held in Rhodes. With such controversy that constantly
surrounds the topic of online gambling it is so refreshing to hear some good
news coming out of the industry. In fact, the steps that these companies are
taking to make online gaming more responsible are a breath of fresh air. The CEO
of the award recipient, Svenska Spel, Anders Hagg is extremely proud of his
company for receiving this award because of all the hard work and commitment put
forth by every person on his dedicated team.
The Swedish government actually owns the Swedish online casino monopoly Svenska
Spel. So it is only natural to receive accolades from someone such as Anders
Borg who is the Finance Minister for Sweden. Mr. Borg made a statement in
support of the company and even said how “proud” he was of their work. The
official title of the award given only to the most responsible of the online
casinos is the WLA Awards for Responsible Gaming Excellence. The panel of judges
that choose the winner for the awards given out by the WLA are experts in
Corporate Social Responsibility from all walk of life such as trading, banking,
and all sorts of different industries. When the president of the World Lottery
Association, Mike Randall, announced that the group’s award would go to Svenska
Spel he also announced that their company, “…overall shows first class behavior
in the area of responsible gaming.”
This is a very good award, but it is not the only trophy that the Sewdish
company took home that day. Svenska Spel also took home the award for best
training program in their category. The category in which they fall into is the
agent/retailer sub-category. The owner of the online casino, Anders Hagg
released a statement on behalf of his company which said, “We are of course
incredibly pleased and proud, a lot of gaming companies around the world have,
in recent years, invested a lot in developing gaming responsibility programmes,
so competition for this prize has been tough.” They should be very proud of
themselves and the work in which they have accomplished. They are a model for
online casinos everywhere.
