South Africa Rethinks Regulation
Online casinos are popular all over the world, South Africa is no exception. The
online casino and gambling industries in the country of South Africa are worth
SAR15.6 billion a year. That is primarily why the South African government is
thinking about reevaluating their very loose regulations on the gambling
industry. In the 12 years that gambling has been legal in South Africa; there
have not been many changes in how business is dealt with. So according to the
latest IOL report, the government officials in charge of this matter will be
making appointments to discuss these matters and consider other options.
The South African Gambling Board has an appointed team of researchers who
determine how the citizens of their state are dealing with such loose online
casino and gambling rules. The IOL reports we mentioned earlier, make mention
that the government will be using research facilities to “probe” into the
possibility of a new system. One of the ways to gain more control of their
online casinos is to broaden their businesses to an international level. This
would require different licensing and regulations all together. This would
provide the South African people the same regulations as the United Kingdom, for
example.
One person that thinks broadening business would be a great idea is the Chief
Executive Officer of Probability, plc Charles Cohen. Cohen’s company will likely
spread itself into South Africa as early as March of 2009. The operation that he
is running is mobile based. This is going to be the future of the online casino,
or any technology as a matter of fact. His sights are set on South Africa and
obviously there is a demand for technology such as this.
