RotoPlay Sues Sportingbet: 1
An international press release announced recently that the company RotoPlay, Inc
filed a lawsuit against Sportingbet plc. The Hershey, Pennsylvania based company
that specializes in fantasy games for online casinos. In the release it states
that RotoPlay's Houston branch filed the lawsuit against the British based
online casino Sportingbet plc. Their case is based on RotoPlay’s allegations
that Sportingbet plc violated their copyrights and in turn crested unfair
competition and loss in revenue. The sports lottery games in question are very
popular at online casinos. These games are highly popular amongst men and
include but are not limited to football, basketball, baseball, and golf.
This case is going all the way to the Federal court in Pennsylvania. The lawsuit
goes on to describe now the defendant offered the allegedly “copied” games in
sister online casinos. The Hershey based company has offered the games in
question since 2001. The games are “Football Lottery” and “Baseball Lottery”.
Unlike the traditional online casino the games are based on fantasy drafting in
which six players are selected from a roster of 54. For those of you who are
unfamiliar with the way that fantasy games are played at online casinos, the way
that a player scores points is based on how well the players on their fantasy
team do during the week in real life games. One feature that is “mysteriously”
featured in both websites versions of these games is a prize pool available for
the player who most accurately guesses the top 4, 5 or 6 top players of the
week.
The President of RotoPlay, Korey Gardner, has a lot to say about this online
casino scandal, claiming that the company ripped off the games’ HTML codes key
by key. This all came after Sportingbet plc spent months trying to get a
licensing agreement with Rotoplay to use those games, not stealing them like
what they are being accused of.
