PPA Asks for Support
As we have previously reported, the Poker Players Alliance has been fighting
from day one to try to get the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of
2006 overturned. The chairman of the PPA had released a message on the
alliance’s website stating how they feel about the decisions made by the current
administration. Online casino activity is now illegal in the United States and
with the latest regulations all financial institutions including banks, credit
card companies and electronic payment websites are not to authorize any online
casino transactions. The regulations have been finalized in the White House and
will be made effective on January 19th 2009 which just so happens to be the day
before President-Elect Obama takes office.
The Poker Players Alliance is calling for action in the online casino community.
They are calling the government’s actions outrageous and that their rulings are
“last minute midnight rulemaking”. The goal of the PPA is to get one million
supporters behind them to keep their battle going. They also pointed out that a
recent political publication said that there are many leaders in the US Congress
that are planning on reversing some of these “midnight regulations”. The PPA
wants to make sure that the decisions made with the UIGEA are part of the ‘last
ditch effort’ reversal. They have made a list on their website of the actions
that anyone concerned with their gambling rights whether it be at online casinos
or land based ones should be worried about.
One of the very simple things that anyone concerned with the online casino ban
can do is write or call your local congressman. In that letter they urge you to
include the main points that concern the PPA. Another thing that you can do is
e-mail the Obama Transition team and urge them to overturn any of their last
minute efforts to make rules. You can also become a member of the Poker Players
Alliance for only $20. Their fight is definitely not over. For any more updates
on the issues facing online casinos you can access the PPA’s website or we will
keep you up to date here on Casino Scrutiny.
