British Team Wins at PartyPoker.com Event :4
The teams that reached the final round had to play through six individual heats.
Holland was tied in second place with Great Britain at the beginning of the
final round of play for the online casino, PartyPoker’s tournament. It was the
surprising playing from Holland’s Quirijin Van der Peet that brought down the
lead that the German team had going into the final round. Van der Peet was the
top poker qualifier from Holland’s online casinos. Those moves are what lead
teams to take advantage of their substitutions and time-outs. This may have been
the reason why Ireland did not end up taking the title, they did not conserve
their allotted substitutions and time outs, as they used them all up earliest of
any team in the final round.
The team USA did not start with the advantages that the other reams had when
entering the finale round. They, unlike the other international poker teams, did
not have a great week at all. The USA’s team captain, Robert Williamson, made
the choice to play Chris Ferguson in first. The choice he made was to try to put
in one of the team’s strongest players to aggressively try to gain in their chip
count. This was no match, however, for the playing of the Irish and British
teams. The presence of the United States was a good one especially because
online casinos are not legal in their own country. However it is legal for them
to participate in land based poker play, even if it is sponsored by an online
casino.
PartyPoker.com had a lot to say about the online casino fans and the player
turnout at the 2008 tournament. A spokesman for the website said that the
tournament was “An amazing experience. A week alongside the world’s best pros in
a unique team atmosphere is intimidating but ultimately exciting and
unforgettable.” The teams all had their own poker celebrities, but the Americans
had one television personality on their team, tv host Montel Williams. Williams
reportedly held his own against the world’s best poker players. Over all the
2008 Poker Nations Cup was a great event, not only for PartyPoker.com, but for
everyone involved as well.
