Judge Sonia Sotomayor is the latest person to be nominated by President Barack Obama into the US Supreme Court. The online casino industry has already begun digging into her past rulings. In past cases that she has ruled over she ruled in favor of the National Football League who is notorious for being opposed to online casinos and internet gambling. In the case that she ruled over she found that the plaintiff’s, Maurice Clarett and Mike Williams, were not right in wanting to strike an age requirement from the League. In explaining the case she found that the NFL is a union and within unions there are rules that protect the jobs within the union from non union members. She commented on the case and said that she would not allow the NFL or its players to "fashion an antitrust exemption".

Judge Sonia Sotomayor held a private practice in which she practiced as an intellectual rights attorney. Within her practice she regularly protected legal property rights of her clients for both tangible and intangible assets. The online casino industry feels that her background may make her sympathetic to the National Football League and she may not want internet gambling websites to use the results of their games for profit. All of those facts can also be negated by the fact that according to the American Bar Association Journal she is labeled as a political centrist. What that means is that when making an important ruling she is more realistic rather than ideological like most other judges.

The executive director of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials, Arturo Vargas said of Judge Sonia Sotomayor, “I don’t think you want robots on the bench. I think you want people who understand how laws affect everyday Americans.” So the online casino industry may not have a concrete answer of whether or not Sotomayor will be an advocate for online casinos or not, but there is proof that she is competent and fair. That is all the online casino industry can really ask for.
