Jackpot Mystery: 4
The case of Sylvia P. continues to boggle the minds of those who thought that
when you were fortunate enough to win a life changing amount of money, that you
would actually be able to spend it. One of the stipulations in the online
casino’s terms and conditions stated that Sylvia P. would be able to collect the
money if the were to spend $100,000 before collecting, as an example. There was
a lot of communication that exchanged between the online casino and the
disappointed winner. There were several unprofessional emails that were sent to
Sylvia P. from a hotmail email address and also a string of very early morning
phone calls that were basically pushing the winner to make a decision on how she
wanted to receive her winnings from this online casino.
So all of the pressure that the winner received during the short hours after her
win eventually lead her to make the decision to just go ahead and collect $2.3
million which is only half of the prize. The online casino also threw in $61,000
in VIP points for their online casinos. The only thing that is not completely
clear with this case is that there does not appear to be a formal agreement that
was signed by both parties involved in this internet gambling debacle. One would
imagine that a win of this magnitude would be highly publicized and documented
but that is not the case for Sylvia P.’s winnings. There appears so be no record
of these winnings which is really strange, considering the sheer size of the
jackpot.
The online casino has not yet produced the proper documents. Sylvia P. said of
the way the situation was handled by the online casino: "Feeling like there was
no way out of this I decided to go ahead and collect only $2,3 million (half the
prize) plus bonus which was $61 000 in VIP points because I was not getting
anywhere and I felt that the VIP manager was not honest because he was changing
and using words one day and the next day there was always something else. So to
collect most of my winnings and make sure I was getting it I did as per their
request.”
