Minnesota Decides: 1

The state of Minnesota recently made online casino forum headlines when it planned on banning online casinos and internet gambling websites in their state. That obviously raised a lot of questions on whether or not that was even allowed to happen. The announcement was made by the Alcohol and Gambling Enforcement Division of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. They sent out letters to the eleven Internet service providers in their state which instructed them to block over 200 online casinos and internet gambling websites. If they decided not to follow the instructions of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety then they would have to face some pretty stiff consequences. So as you can tell this seems like a pretty serious request from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.

Some of the Internet Service Providers thought that the letter was a part of an April Fool’s joke, that meant that most of the internet service providers did not respond to the state’s request to ban those online casinos. The original letter that was sent out to all the internet service providers gave companies like Cablevision, Qwest and Comcast up to three weeks to begin the process of banning the online casino sites from their services. The letter also warned the companies that a letter was being sent to the Federal Communications Commission letting them know that these requests were being made of the internet service providers. As one can imagine that would seem like a pretty serious letter and one that would make the internet service providers take some quick steps to resolving the issue.
