Minnesota DPS Challenge: 1
There was a new bill that was introduced to the Minnesota legislature by the
Representative Pat Garofalo. The bill that was presented would prevent the
Minnesota department of Public Safety from going through with their current
agenda to get the online casino and internet gambling website access removed
from the residents of Minnesota. To be more specific there are over 200 online
casinos that the Minnesota Department of Public Safety wants to have removed
from the realm of accessibility. This has sparked a statewide debate on whether
or not this was something that the state should be able to ban or not. That is
precisely why the bill was introduced by Representative Pat Garofalo to try to
prevent this from happening.
The actions that have been made by the Department of Public Safety have been
negatively received by many in the state of Minnesota. This of course has not
gone over well with the online casino players but also with commercial, legal
and political specters. The way that the Sate of Minnesota may be able to apply
the online casino rules to the current legislation is by going by the Federal
Wire Act of 1961. The Wire Act has been reviewed several times in regards to the
issues that online casinos and internet gambling websites are facing but has
been ruled strictly towards prohibiting sports betting. There is also a big
controversy regarding their claim over the internet in general.
Representative Pat Garofalo expressed his online casino views to the
Star-Tribune "The Department of Public Safety has to have better things to do
with their time than to go after a college kid in his dorm room or some guy
sitting in his basement spending a couple of hours playing online poker."
