Politico Author Accuses Wichterman:2
The article in the Politico magazine summarizes a lot of this year’ events
against the online casino industry and in support of the UIGEA. All of the
issues that are tied to William Wichterman were rushed through the congress; the
Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was one of them. The UIGEA was rushed
through the Congress in 2006 because it was being pushed by Republican leader
Bill Frist and was attached to an unrelated security bill that needed to be
passed as a matter of national security. Since the ban was placed on online
casinos in the United States, the law makers in Washington have been struggling
to actually specify what each regulation means and who is going to be in charge
of enforcing these policies, they are most likely going to pin it on the US
Financial Services Industry.
The illegal online casino gambling act lacks a lot of things but particularly
what actually constitutes “illegal Internet gambling”. Organizations that
support online casinos have been fighting for this law in particular to be over
turned since it passed in 2006 because of the fact that it is so unclear. This
has been a hot topic in many discussion forums all over the world. This has
sparked many hours of congressional hearings, meetings and countless attempts to
over turn this seemingly flawed Act. Starting this December has placed a, what
has pretty much universally been seen as a burden, on the United States’
financial services industry. They will now have to deny any transaction that may
be “illegal online gambling”.
