Washington Post Article Probes Online Casinos: 2
The cheating scandals that involved the online casinos Ultimate Bet and Absolute
Poker were investigated because the players of the website stood up and demanded
answers. Their complaints were ignored by the administrators of both websites
for months, so then the players decided to launch an investigation. Gaul said
the two websites operate out of Costa Rica, from a shopping mall. The websites
also have servers that are run out of an Indian reservation in Canada. The only
problem that Gaul has with this Mohawk reservation is that they do not have a
strong online casino background and they are not under the jurisdiction of the
federal government in those types of situations.
The owner of the two websites involved I the online casino scandal is Joe Norton
of the Tokwiro Enterprises. The article also covers some well known details of
the Kahnawake licensing and hosting set ups and he also comments on how Norton
admitted to buying the online casinos a year after the deal was signed with
Kahnawake. The only problem with that is that not everyone was aware that Norton
had purchased the websites, not even the Grand Chief of the Mohawk tribe,
Michael Delisle. "I was as surprised as anyone else," Mohawk Grand Chief Michael
Delisle told Gaul. He also told Gaul that he never had an opportunity to ask
Norton about the cheating accusations. He also added, "and honestly I don't
think it's any of my business." When, actually, that is exactly what it is: his
business.
Grand Chief Delisle’s tribe collects millions of dollars each year due to
licensing fees and hosting websites such as online casinos. They actually just
purchased a large stake in the Isle of Man internet server firm which is based
out of Ireland. Their division will be known as continent 8 Technologies and
they are projected to receive at least $1 million a year from that investment.
The online casino scandal ridden websites are still in operation.
